Hockey legend Bobby Hull may have been present during Saturday night’s Indy Fuel game. But, I’m afraid our local ECHL hockey club did very little channeling of ‘The Golden Jet’ during their fourth match-up with the Reading Royals. An impressive 5,227 fans were on hand at Indiana Farmers Coliseum to ultimately witness the Fuel fall to the Royals, 3-1.
Period one saw a single puck sneak by Indy Goaltender Mac Carruth at 10:02, giving Reading’s Michael Caruso his first score of the season. However, Garett Bembridge decided to tie things up at 4:13 into the second with his 11th for the season. Take that, Caruso. With less than a minute to go in the second, a holding call against the Fuel’s Matt White led to a power play goal by Reading’s Sean Wiles. Ouch.
The final period of Indy’s inaugural ‘Blackhawks Night’ concluded with the Fuel pulling Mac Carruth with 1:40 to go. This last ditch effort was to no avail, and merely provided the Royals, and Alaskan native Bryant Molle, with a big ol’ empty net into which to sink the final shot of this 3-1 defeat.
Be sure to catch the Indy Fuel this Friday, when they once again enter the ring against the Cincinnati Cyclones. If the past is any indicator, you can expect a real slugfest between the two rivals.
