Hoosier Hero Returns, Propels Eleven to Victory

Indy Eleven’s original member and hometown hero, Dylan Mares made his return on Wednesday and punched in the 3-2 game winner over Toronto FC II.

A former IHSAA state champion Zionsville Eagle (2009), Big Ten Tournament Champion Indiana Hoosier (2013), 3 year Indy Eleven veteran and 2014 NASL Spring Champion, Dylan felt right at home in Lucas Oil Stadium and in the starting lineup just 2 days after his return.

The game started slow, but the scoring took off in the 18th minute when Nico Matern sent a long pass over the top to a streaking Ben Speas for the first goal.  It was quickly followed by a Jack McInerney goal just six minutes later.  In a déjà vu like feeling to last Wednesday versus the North Carolina FC Railhawks, Toronto’s midfielder Tsubasa Endoh shot straight over the Eleven line into the top left corner in the 29th minute and Jordan Hamilton evened the score from outside the box off a Liam Fraser assist.

The second half was contentious, but many fouls went uncalled.  The only goal was Dylan Mares shot from the center of the box after he was found by Soony Saad for the match win.

The Indy Eleven are back on the road Saturday at Coolray Field to take on Atlanta United 2 at 7pm.  That game can be viewed on ESPN+.
