Fuel Fry the Walleye in 3-2 Home Opening Win

Welcome to the second season for the Indy Fuel!!  The Indiana Farmers Coliseum was the place to be this Friday night, with the home opener of the Indy Fuel drawing an amazing crowd.  Before you even entered the arena, fans were met with fun, family activities.  Young hockey fans could test their skills on the ice and have their faces painted,  while the Hunter Smith Band serenaded the crowd.  The former Colts player, now musician, would also serve as the celebrity shooter later in the game.

Friday was the first of seven meet-ups between Indy and Toledo this season.  Indy was looking for a win, as they were defeated in all matches against Toledo in the inaugural season.  Toledo, the ECHL regular season champions (14/15) were the perfect opponents for a home opener.  Indy is testing out a new roster, and looking to be known as one of the ECHL’s elite teams this season.  With the addition of players like Alex Lavoie and Dylan Clarke, the Fuel are looking to build from the momentum they built in the second half of last year’s play, as well as a 3-0 pre-season streak.

Dylan Clarke was the first on the board, with a goal at 1:18 into the match.  The crowd, armed with their Fuel towels, were fired up!  Toledo responded at 8:34 with a goal from AJ Jenks.  Plays by both teams would leave the score at 2-2 at the end of the first period.  Fuel goalie Owen was perhaps the star of tonight’s match, with 29 saves (11 in the second period alone), giving the Fuel a shot at the win in the third.

Forced into overtimes and a shootout, the Fuel were able to score off of Kyle Stroh in the second round.  An opening night win is a great way to start the season!  The Fuel will next face the Evansville Icemen and a two-game tour against Ft. Wayne.  The Fuel will face Fort Wayne again, at the next home match on 10/30/15.
