The Indy Fuel fell to the Cincinnati Cyclones 4-1 Friday night during their last home game before the mid-season all-star break. Indy’s newly acquired forward, Nicklas Lindberg, proved his worth by scoring the only goal of the evening for the hometown team.
Also making his Indy debut, veteran ECHL goaltender Shane Owen likely heard the puck, which was flung by Cinci’s Chris Reed, whiz by his ear and into the goal at 6:39 into the game. No additional shots found their way to the back of the net for the remainder of period one. The Fuel fared no better during the middle frame. A short-handed tally at 4:41 by Cyclone forward Geoff Irwin resulted in a 2-0 lead, which lasted through the period.
Nicklas Lindberg, determined to show Indy his awesome Swedish skills, started off the final period by scoring his first goal for the team, hence narrowing the margin to a single goal. The Cyclone’s David Pacan had other plans, I’m afraid, as he brought his team’s advantage back to two goals less than 3 minutes later. With 1:34 left on the clock, Indy pulled their goaltender, and once again, Cincinnati’s Geoff Irwin planted another shorthanded goal into the net, ending things for the night.
After an extended road trip, the Indy Fuel will return to Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Friday, January 23rd to face the Allen Americans. Since it’s going to be ‘Retro Rewind’ Night, BE THERE, OR BE SQUARE. TOTALLY.
