With a packed house, and plenty of period-break shenanigans, the Fuel extended their winning streak by dominating the Allen Americans. It was “Retro Rewind” night at the Coliseum, with the Hanson Brothers (of Slapshot fame) in the house. The first period was scoreless for both teams. The Americans were quite the opponents (away from the goal), very vocal and aggressive. Indy’s goalie was on point, defending a number of scoring attempts.
The heat was turned up in the second period. Allen took the lead with a goal by Steffes, which would prove to be the one-and-only goal by the leaders of the Western Division. The Fuel’s Arseneau and Bly made matching goals within a two minute period, leaving the score at 2-1, at the end of the second. The third period brought a repeat of quick scoring by the Fuel. The crowd was on its feet, while Bembridge and Duco each scored within an incredible 20 seconds! With this strong win, the Fuel go into Saturday’s match against the Evansville Icemen with a record of 11-21-4-3.
While the game was one to watch, the fans were just as excited by the special guests of the evening. The Hanson Brothers, knows for their Slapshot movies, were on hand for some hijinks. During a break in the game, the brothers battled it out against Jr. Hockey League Players. After the game concluded, a line was literally out the door for autographs and pictures with the trio. And I can say with confidence…the mullets were real, and quite fantastic.
