Fever win gives them the #2 seed

Indianapolis – The Indiana Fever did two things Saturday night – they honored their long time Coach Lin Dunn by giving her a win in her final regular season home game and also locked up the number two seed in the Eastern Conference.  The Fever used defense and an inside presence in the paint both scoring and rebounding wise to defeat the Chicago Sky 71-67.

The Fever jumped on the Sky early.  They outscored Chicago 32-16 in the first quarter while out rebounding them 11-2 and getting 11 of their 32 points off off Chicago turnovers.  Briann January and Tamika Catchings had eight points each in the quarter while Shavonte Zellous added seven points.  It seemed like every shot was falling for the Fever.

In the second and third quarters the Fever couldn’t buy a basket from outside.  They shot 24% from the field and by the end of the third quarter, Chicago had erased that first quarter lead and were only down by two points. The Sky’s bench players Allie Quigley and Elena Delle Donne were the two who led the charge back scoring eight and 13 points respectively through the two quarters.

Down the stretch it was Catchings who took the team on her back scoring 10 of her game high 25 points in the fourth quarter.  She was aggressive on the offensive end taking the ball to the basket and getting fouled.  Erlana Larkins pulled down the rebounds when needed to help the Fever get the victory.
