The Naptown Roller Girls were on hand at Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Saturday night. But, they weren’t there to Jam, Block, or Pivot on the flat track. Like the rest of the hometown crowd, they were there to support the Indy Fuel and eager to see a repeat of Friday’s 4-3 defeat of the Cincinnati Cyclones.
The first period proved scoreless, but saw an equal share of penalties doled out to both clubs. This included a major for Indy’s Johnny McGuire and Cinci’s Josh McFadden due to an impressive bout between the two Ontario natives.
A second period power play brought the game’s first goal when Fuel captain Mike Duco landed his 7th goal of the season with forwards Robert Czarnik and Dean Chelios assisting. Although stopping an impressive 22 of 24 shots on goal, Mac Carruth’s luck ran out at 17:52 of the third when the Cyclone’s Zach Budish managed to sneak an unassisted power play shot into the net, tying things up and forcing the game into overtime.
Tensions were high during the extra period, as Indy chased its first shutout in club history. Alas, it wasn’t something that Saturday’s 4,428 fans were meant to witness. Cincinnati’s David MacDonald made sure of this at exactly 1:59 into OT with the game winning goal that the team’s captain planted into the top of the net.
Be sure to Join the Fuel next weekend for the New Year Celebration on Friday, January 2nd and Black Hawk Night on Saturday, the 3rd.
